3RD LEG SUPPORT BENEFITS
The STR 3rd LEG Support is the only drop trailer support currently in SA that is a true South African designed, patented and manufactured system.
The 3rd LEG is a major role player in CRITICAL SAFETY for drop trailer programs.
Because of its effectiveness, the 3rd LEG greatly enhances PROCESS EFFICIENCY.
Expect a SUBSTANTIAL DECREASE IN TURNAROUND TIME. Because of the 3rd LEG supporting the trailer, while unhitched from the horse, the truck can, within minutes of the 3rd LEG being fitted, hook another trailer and get back on-route.
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN PRODUCTIVITY. Due to the efficiency of the process, more can be done in a day. More trailers on- and off loaded
EXTENDED TRAILER LIFETIME. By fitting the STR 3rd LEG Support to the trailer’s rubbing/ skid plate during loading operations the side load strain that is usually absorbed by the standard trailer supports is reduced significantly. Flexing of the trailer’s chassis is also reduced during loading operations, therefore reducing metal fatigue over time. It can also be used as a tool to detect rubbing/ skid plate deflection as part of routine maintenance checks
What is a drop trailer?
A drop trailer is a type of truck trailer that is left (or “dropped”) at a distribution facility for convenient loading or unloading at the warehouse’s discretion. This system allows the truck tractor and driver to deliver another loaded trailer, which helps improve the turnaround time.
Why should we ‘drop’ the trailer?
- It saves time. The truck can off hook the trailer and hook another trailer to get back on-route in no time. This allows for uploading or offloading of the trailer without the truck being ‘held up’.
- It saves money. Time is money so the mere fact that the truck can hook another trailer, creates the opportunity for more loads to be transported in a 24 hour cycle. There is also a saving on capital expense as less trucks are needed to transport the optimal load in a 24 hour cycle.
- It increases productivity. Saving time and money equates to better productivity and in essence, better profitability as well.
What are the risks?
To ensure safe loading operations, it’s important to keep in mind that the landing legs of a trailer are not designed to handle sideloads and should not be used to support the overhang at the front of the trailer. Doing so may lead to the trailer tipping over.

What is the solution?
By fitting the STR 3rd LEG Support to the skid plate of the trailer, it supports the overhang and improves stability of the trailer.
